BACKING UP YOUR FILES:

Applies to: PROSLIDE II (All Versions 5.0 and Greater)

SUMMARY

It is recommended that you back-up your database files, report files and format files frequently. By far the largest investment you will make in a data base is the time spent at the keyboard entering information. Hard disks are becoming more durable and reliable, however, they are mechanical devices and are subject to friction and wear. Protect your investment by frequent backups onto disks, zip drives etc.

Note: Proslide II for windows saves all your files in the following locations:

DATABASE Files: \Pro2win\User_db

REPORT Files: \Pro2win\User_rpt

KEYBOARD Files: \Pro2win\User_kyb

IMAGES : \Pro2win\User_img

You should copy these files to disk using Microsoft Explorer.

PROCEDURE

1. Insert the disk in the floppy disk drive.

2 In Windows Explorer, click the file you want to copy.

3 On the File menu, point to Send To, and then click the drive you want to copy the file to.

To copy the files to another directory:

1 In My Computer or Windows Explorer, click the file or folder you want to copy.

2 On the Edit menu, click Copy.

3 Open the folder or disk where you want to put the copy.

4 On the Edit menu, click Paste.

To select more than one file or folder to copy, hold down the CTRL key, and then click the items you want.

Alternatively, you could use the Backup that is found in most Windows 95, 98 and NT machines. Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Backup.    Follow the on-line help to create a automatic daily backup.

Proslide II for Windows saves all of the Formats and Label types in the following locations:

These files only need to be backed up when you change or add a label type or a format. Follow the directions above. Make sure you copy all ten files.

These files are found in the directory \Pro2win\bin\ the file names are Format.dbf, Format.mdx, Frmtreg.dbf, Frmtreg.mdx, Label.dbf, Label.mdx Print.dbf, Print.mdx, Printmap.dbf, Printmap.mdx
